TIPS ON HOW TO MEASURE YOUR KITCHEN
You can use our measuring guides for a DIY approach, or book an appointment with Ikea’s in-home kitchen planning services to handle the measurements for you.
Precise and accurate measurements are the foundation for a successful custom Ikea kitchen. Take your time, measure in inches, and before you know it you’ll be on your way to a successful home-remodeling project! Need professional assistance? We highly recommend Ikea’s Measuring Service. Book an appointment with them and they’ll send a pro out to measure your kitchen for you.
STEP 1: START WITH YOUR LAYOUT
Draw your room layout on a sheet of paper. We recommend having one piece of paper for each wall
STEP 2 : MEASURE FROM FLOOR TO CEILING
Measure the floor to ceiling, marking the highest and lowest points. Then measure the distance between walls and from the corners to the doorss
STEP 3 : MEASURING FROM DOORS & WINDOWS
Measure each wall fully from floor to ceiling and from doors to windows. Remember to include door and window frames in your drawings.
STEP 4 : NOTE ANY IMPORTANT FIXTURES
Measure the location of water and gas lines, drains, ventilation shafts, outlet and light switches, or any important fixture in your kitchen that must be planned around. If keeping the appliance location the same, measure the center of the appliance from the corners of the room.

Start by measuring from the floor to the ceiling. Then measure the distance between walls and from the corners to the doors.

Measure the widths and heights of doors and windows. Then measure their distances from the floor, the ceiling, and the corners of your kitchen.
STEP 3
Measure the location of water and gas lines, drains, ventilation shafts, outlet and light switches, or any important fixture in your kitchen
that must be planned around. If keeping the appliance location the same, measure the center of the appliance from the corners of the room.
